Today

Annette wanted a pie for her Birthday.
Today I made an apple pie, it was beautiful.
I was looking forward to a piece.
I went to the store.
Eric took it out of the oven for me.
It was hot.
It slipped out of his oven mitts.
It landed on it's side.
He used a queen sized sheet to clean it up,
Sort of.
He was hiding it from me by sitting on it when I came home.
He says it is still eatable.
I think he may be right.
I put it back into the pie plate,
sort of.
It is no longer beautiful, or an apple pie.
I am debating if I should still have a piece.
I really love pie.... (sigh)
Excuse me while I go make a cherry pie for Annette.

Current Reading

I pulled this off the bookshelf the other day to give to my sister.... She said she wanted a potty book for her birthday. (What she was really asking for was this one for her 2-yr-old) I thought it would be a funny joke to give the parenting book to her first. (BTW both are exellent books, just not for the same age group.)

Anyway they were both sitting on the table a few days ago. I found the parenting book under the table this morning with a bookmark in the allowance chapter. Do you think Eric is genuinly interested in parenting? Before you answer that question you better see some of the other books he has been reading...
Apparently he knows all the secrets of parenting now. Will he use his new knowledge for good or evil?

Boys will be boys...

We've had Robert's nephew staying with us while his parents are on vacation. Those two boys are having so much fun!
"Keep Out! could get hurt seiously, caution, dangerous, contrution site" kind of fun. And if you've ever stepped on legos in bare feet, you know how important it is to heed that sign.



The best part about the raft with the guns, and nets and life vests is the cd player in the background playing "we are sailing, and Jesus is the captain by our side." from Scripture Scouts. Boys are so much fun :)

Shopping

In the past shopping has been difficult. A week before Eric was to start Kindergarten, we were pulling out of the grocery store parking lot, and he tells me, "You can do this while I'm at school." Me: "What, you don't like shopping?" Eric: "no." And EVERY time I took him to the store after school he would tell me in his most condescending voice, "You were supposed to do this when I was in school!"

He hates shopping, with one exception, Costco. We stopped by after swimming lessons today. He told me, "If they don't let people with swimming suits on in the store you'll have to bring the samples to me out in the car." I assured him that since he was wearing a t-shirt with his swimming suit all would be fine. But I was wrong! We had arrived too early for samples. I suggested that we buy our milk and leave, but Eric had a better idea. We wandered around Costco for 20 minutes until there were an acceptable amount of sample carts operating. (Although I did make him pass up on the black tea and energy bar samples. Yeah that's all he needs is a booster of caffeine!)

So did I waste my time in Costco? No. I can now tell you that between all the brands of 100% juice drinks sold in individual servings Caprisun and Kirkland tie in being the cheapest at $0.034 an ounce. I can also tell you that the blow-up waterslide/pool/climbing wall is way cool and way too expensive at $700. And that you can knock down the basket ball display with the display ball even if you were "just shooting it." Just incase you were wondering.

Hello? Hello? anybody there...

Sorry I haven't blogged for a while, I've been pouting. Robert said we couldn't move to Hawaii. :( But my roses are beginning to bloom and it's not too hot yet, so it feels like Hawaii today.

Do you look forward to summer? If you have kids in school they do. I like summer break. It's nice to have Eric home and we get to sleep in. I know some moms don't like summer break but having an only child I don't have to deal with fighting. (Ocasionally Eric tries to fight with me but I pull the "because I'm the Mom!" card) Last summer we were camping at Bear Lake and I made him go to bed. He yells out from the tent, "It's not fair, you always get what you want!" I told him what I wanted was a cruise to the Caribbean but what I got was a tent at Bear Lake. I also told him when he was all grown up he could decide when to go to bed. I guess that soothed his ego because he fell asleep.

We have a big project planned for this summer! Can you guess what it is?
I'll give you some hints:
1. Eric's in charge of design, he has grand ideas.
2. I want to use bamboo.
3. Robert is in charge of the reality check and heavy labor.
4. It has something to do with Julie's missing deck.
